SILENCE IS GOLDEN is a festival of contemporary silent film of all categories, as well as a retrospective of classic works of the silent era. It consists of a competition program of newly made films, as well as special screenings of important films from the history of silent film with improvised music by several musical ensembles as accompaniment and accompanying lectures.
Venues: Student city Cultural center, ABAZIJA cinema Palić-Subotica, NKC, Niš
The festival is realized through several program sections:
A. A competition program of contemporary silent films evaluated by a three-member jury delegated by theorists and creators in the field of cinematography. The award for the best film is given, the sculpture SILENCE IS GOLDEN
B. Projection of a significant works from the history of silent film and accompanying lectures on film.
C. Performing improvised music on silent films from the competition selection.
D. Round table/Master classes on the topic of restoration, digitization and development of silent film form today in the light of the digital age
E. Networking with other silent film festivals in the world
The aim of the festival is to revalue silent film as an original cinematic expression and a film language based on visual, sign and non-verbal means of expression. Exploring the perspectives of silent film in the digital age, through the presentation of restoration and digitization projects.
The target group of the festival are students of the University of Arts, residents of the Student City, film lovers, professionals in the field of cinematography.

Rules & Terms
1. The 1st Silent Film Festival SILENCE IS GOLDEN in its competition program shows domestic and international silent films that do not have dialogue and music and can have ambient noises or are completely without sound, of all categories and types.
2. Movies may contain text boards or subtitles, or notes for a score which can be performed live along with film.
3. Entries must not be older than 3 years
4. The duration of films that can be submitted is up to 45 minutes.
5. Films from the competition program are shown with live music.
6. Films may be submitted by directors, producers, institutions or other legal entities with rights to represent films.
7. The selection of films for the competition program is chosen by the selector of the competition program in coordination with the Artistic director of the festival.
8. In addition to the competition program, the festival presents other program sections in the field of theory, history and aesthetics of film, namely retrospectives, lectures, panel discussions and presentations of current film theoretical works on the topic of silent film.
Silent Film Festival SILENCE IS GOLDEN awards the prize for the best film according to the evaluation of the expert jury and the audience award. The award consists of a plaque and the participation of the festival organizers in the production of a silent film by the awarded author, lasting up to 5 minutes until the next edition of the festival.
10. The organizer undertakes to store all submitted films in the archives of the Festival and use them exclusively for documentary, educational and cultural purposes. In case the organizer has lost or damaged the copy, he is obliged to cover the cost of materials and making a new projection or archive copy.
11. The selector has the right to disqualify a film submitted on a copy of poor technical quality.
12. The organizer invites directors, producers and other members of the creative team of films selected for the competition program and provides them with accommodation during the three nights of the festival, but without the possibility of reimbursement of travel expenses, given the limited budget.
ĆUTANJE JE ZLATO – Naziv festivala je inspirisan istoimenim filmom Rene Klera, iz 1947, sa radnjom smeštenom u epohu nemog filma.
Epoha nemog filma je stvorila autentično izražajno sredstvo sa originalnim sistemom značenjskih kodova zasnovanim na postupcima koji pripadaju isključivo vizuelnom kinematografskom jeziku i manipulaciji dijegetičkim prostorom i vremenom- montaži.
Pojavom zvuka, igrani film je preuzeo i neke oblike izražajnosti iz klasičnih dramskih formi i time izgubio na svojoj čistoti i autentičnosti u estetičkom smislu, često dajući prednost verbalnim izražajnim sredstvima.
ĆUTANJE JE ZLATO je festival savremenog nemog filma svih kategorija, kao i retrospektiva klasičnih dela neme epohe igranog filma. Sastoji se od takmičarskog programa novonastalih filmova, kao i specijalnih projekcija značajnih filmova iz istorije nemog filma sa sa improvizovanom muzikom nekoliko muzičkih sastava kao pratnjom i pratećim predavanjima.
Festival se realizuje kroz nekoliko programskih celina:
A. Takmičarski program savremenih nemih filmova koji procenjuje tročlani žiri delegiran od teoretičara i stvaralaca iz oblasti kinematografije. Dodeljuje se nagrada za najbolji film, skulptura ĆUTANJE JE ZLATO
B. Projekcija značajnog dela iz istorije nemog filma i prateća predavanja o filmu.
V. Izvođenje improvizovane muzike na neme filmove iz takmičarske selekcije.
G. Okrugli sto na temu restauracije, digitalizacije i razvoja forme nemog filma danas u svetlu digitalnog doba
D. Umrežavanje sa drugim festivalima nemog filma u svetu
Cilj festivala je Revalorizovanje nemog filma kao originalnog kinematografskog izraza i filmskog jezika zasnovanog na vizuelnim, znakovnim i neverbalnim sredstvima izražavanja. Istraživanje perspektiva nemog filma u digitalnom dobu, kroz predstavljanje projekata restauracije i digitalizacije.
Ciljna grupa festivala su studenti Univerziteta umetnosti, stanovnici Studentskog grada, filmofilska populacija, profesionalci u oblasti kinematografije.

Propozicije 1. Festivala nemog filma ĆUTANJE JE ZLATO
1. Festivala nemog filma ĆUTANJE JE ZLATO u svom takmičarskom programu prikazuje domaće i međunarodne neme filmove koji nemaju dijalog i muziku a mogu imati ambijetalne šumove ili su potpuno bez zvuka, svih kategorija i vrsta.
2. Filmovi mogu sadržati tabloe sa tekstom ili titlove, ili partitiuru za izvođenje muzike uživo.
3. Prijavljeni filmovi ne mogu biti stariji od 3 godine
4. Trajanje filmova koji se mogu prijaviti je do 45 minuta.
5. Filmovi iz takmičarskog programa se prikazuju sa živom muzičkom pratnjom.
6. Filmove mogu prijaviti reditelji, producenti, ustanove ili ostale pravne osobe s pravima za zastupanje filmova. Na Festivalu mogu učestvovati samo filmovi koji nemaju audiokomponentu. Filmovi se prijavljuju na email adresu silenceisgold.festival@gmail.com sa linkom na screener I press kitom filma.
7. Selekciju filmova za takmičarski program bira selektor takmičarskog programa u koordinaciji sa umetničkim direktorom festivala.
8. Pored takmičarskog programa festival predstavlja I druge programske celine iz oblasti teorije, istorije i estetike filma I to retrospektive, predavanja, panel diskusije I prezentacije aktuelne publicistike na temu nemog filma.
9. Festival nemog filma ĆUTANJE JE ZLATO dodeljuje nagradu za najbolji film prema oceni stručnog žirija i nagradu publike. Nagrada se sastoji od plakete i učešća organizatora festivala u produkciji nemog filma nagrađenog autora u trajanju do 5 minuta do sledećeg izdanja festivala.
10. Organizator se obavezuje da sve prijavljene filmove pohrani u arhivu Festivala i koristi ih isključivo u dokumentacijske, edukativne i kulturološke svrhe. U slučaju da je organizator izgubio ili oštetio kopiju, dužan je pokriti trošak materijala i izrade nove projekcijske ili arhivske kopije.
11. Selektor ima pravo da diskvalifikuje film koji je dostavljen na kopiji lošeg tehničkog kvaliteta.
12. Organizator poziva u goste reditelje, producente i ostale članove kreativne ekipe filmova koji su selektovani za takmičarski program i obezbeđuje im smeštaj tokom tri noći trajanja festivala, ali bez mogućnosti refundacije putnih troškova, s obzirom na ograničena budžetska sredstva.
